About the Chickens

Many years ago, perhaps ten or so, my dear mother went to Germany and brought me back a framed painting of a plump German couple surrounded by chickens. Perhaps a year later, she sent me a lamp with a ceramic chicken base. At this point, I don't think she was actively collecting chickens, at least not consciously. Soon, however, she began finding more and more chicken-themed items. I guess she didn't particularly want them in HER house, so she sent them to me. Again... and again... and again. It one point, I asked her to stop, pleading that I was running out of room. She flatly denied my request.
I am now the proud curator of quite an extensive collection, thanks to Mom. This little blog is an attempt to say thanks. Thanks Mom, thanks for the chickens. You don't have to stop anymore.

This is the famous "chicken wine" that Mom bought me in France in 1997. We never opened it. It used to be "white wine" and now it's rusting, I think.

OK, I bought this one. It was perhaps the first chicken item I purchased, and I felt quite sneaky about it. I mean, it's supposed to be my Mom's collection, isn't it???

The First Chicken Picture

Purchased in Germany, this picture started the collection. I guess the funny couple represents me and Dan with our collection. It was only the beginning of a chickenpallooza.

I love chickens. They're my friends.

Chicken (glued together) Who Used to be a Lamp

This, I believe, was my second chicken gift from Mom. It was part of a lamp with a black shade and it arrived broken. I engineered a fix with epoxy, duct tape, and washers. That lasted for several years until, I think, the lamp fell over and all my king's horses couldn't put chicken back together again.

Lamp chicken now resides, retired from work in the electrical field, in my secretary book case.
